Nasza historia — our story
Pierogi Kitchen is the work of husband-and-wife duo Artur Wnorowski and Małgorzata Pieniążek, who opened in Wicker Park — a neighborhood with deep Polish roots — to bring traditional Polish home cooking to Chicago. Together they brought a pierogi dough recipe passed through generations and a simple vision: Polish classics made with the care of a fine bistro, in a space where everyone feels at home.
From hand-rolled pierogi to fermented beet barszcz and 14-hour smoked brisket, everything is made in our kitchen — old recipes and new interpretations, side by side, served on the blue Bolesławiec pottery Poland is famous for.

Na Kozich Prerach — on the goat prairie
Long before Wicker Park had coffee shops and record stores, Polish immigrants called this stretch of Chicago "Kozie Prery" — the goat prairie — for the goats they raised behind their cottages. The goats gave Bucktown its name; the families gave the neighborhood its soul. By the turn of the century, the blocks around Milwaukee Avenue had become Polish Downtown — the beating heart of American Polonia, anchored by the Polonia Triangle and the great parish of St. Stanislaus Kostka, with more Poles than any city on earth outside Warsaw.
Pierogi Kitchen stands on that same ground, and cooks like it remembers. Every morning we roll our dough by hand from a recipe carried across generations, and fill it the old way and the new — potato and cheese, traditional meat, sauerkraut and mushroom, sweet cheese, alongside smoked brisket, truffle with wild mushrooms, and roasted beets with goat cheese (the goats, it seems, are still with us). Around the pierogi gathers the full table of Polish home cooking: żurek sour rye soup with kielbasa and egg, red barszcz from fermented beets, dill pickle soup, gołąbki stuffed cabbage, bigos hunter's stew with wild boar sausage, schabowy breaded pork loin, house-smoked kielbasa, and crispy potato pancakes.
Brunch runs daily until 3pm — the Pierogi Benedict has become a neighborhood favorite — and the craft bar pours Polish beers, house vodka cocktails, and the proper Polish pickleback. Whether you're searching for the best pierogi in Chicago, a Polish restaurant near Wicker Park and Bucktown, or simply a warm table on the old Kozie Prery, our kitchen is open seven days a week for dine-in, takeout, and delivery.
